 Sony Puts Summer Back On Track As Will Smith & Martin Lawrence’s ‘Bad Boys: Ride Or Die’ Clocks $56M Opening

Sony‘s Bad Boys: Ride or Die had a great Saturday of $19.5M, -10% against previews/first day of $21.6M, for what’s shaping up to be a $56M opening. This is the highest-grossing R-rated opening since Oppenheimer last July, and Will Smith‘s sixth-highest U.S./Canada opening overall of his career and his 18th No. 1 opening as a leading man. For Martin Lawrence, Bad Boys: Ride or Die is his 8th No. 1 domestic opening.

Pharrell Williams’ life has gotten the LEGO treatment in the first trailer from Focus Features’ Piece by Piece. Directed by Morgan Neville, the film’s trailer is an imaginative take on Williams’ musical life, with LEGO cameos by Gwen Stefani, Kendrick Lamar, Busta Rhymes, Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, Jay-Z and Snoop Dogg. The film will also have new music by Williams. Described as a “one-of-a-kind cinematic experience about one of music’s most innovative minds,” Piece by Piece takes viewers on the journey of Williams’ childhood and his rise to musical and cultural prominence.

Apple TV+ has announced the premiere date and first look images for its upcoming limited series, “Lady in the Lake.” The seven-part drama, based on Laura Lippman’s novel and directed by Alma Har’el, will debut globally on July 19, 2024.

The story unfolds in 1960s Baltimore, revolving around the lives of two women drawn together by a haunting murder mystery. Academy Award winner Natalie Portman stars as Maddie Schwartz, a housewife turned investigative journalist, while Emmy-nominated Moses Ingram portrays Cleo Sherwood, a determined mother navigating the challenges of Black Baltimore.
